Meeting with the Executive Staff

Stella, Compton, and I met with the Executive Committee today to present the independent study proposal. We briefly discussed the history of how we got interested in the Globe, then the highlights of the independent study, including an emphasis on the student interactions, business minor, etc. etc.

They asked many questions, including our vision of the space- we reiterated that this is a process, but laid out the market/restaurant hybrid, maybe a partnership with a company like GreenLife, local artisans, late night food option, hang-out, etc.

They tended to focus on the academic credit, the structure of the independent study versus a course, which faculty members would take this on, the course description. They were confused about several students working together in an independent study project- getting caught up in the language of 'independent' and worried about more work for the econ/business department. We weren't as clear or certain about this- this needs to be a priority.

What we need to do next:
Meet with Hartman and Jerry Forester about the meeting- emphasis we need more time to put together a viable alternative proposal
Get an ad hoc committee together with the representatives of the OG and Student Assembly to chose the students and faculty members
Talk with faculty members to get them on board, who is willing to take on more
Write course descriptions for the independent studies- each student must have a different focus, not just one course
Advertise with the students about the study

MEETING IN THE LAL at 8pm, Tuesday night to discuss this!!! Please try to make it, we really gotta get this moving.
